A project to create a series of works that explore the ways Chinese identity and local identity coexist through collaboration with families with different histories living in Chinatowns around the world. The first endeavor will be in Yokohama Chinatown, which will be world premiered in the next edition of YPAM. The artist will embark on one month of research, and we plan to introduce the project in the form of an open rehearsal.

Yang Zhen

Yang Zhen is a choreographer and performance maker of the post-1990s Cenozoic era in China. He has been presenting and discussing the existence and aesthetic relationship between individuality and collectivity within different social contexts, based on the perception of social life and the different cultural scenes in different places. Graduated from the Dance College of Central University for Nationalities in 2014, Yang Zhen began to create a series of works under the banner “Revolution Game Trilogy.” Its latest part Minorities (2017), as well as newer works Delta and Destination (2019) have been touring internationally.
